Representing Things and Ideas

The project that we have been working on for the last three weeks is beginning to come to an end. Most of the time that I spent on this project was mainly drawing sketches. Over the course of this project we had to use 16 different type of drawing techniques, each type containing 20 separate sketches.

The assignment was to take a normal hand-tool and to do the variety of sketches about that object. I chose a wrench, which turned out to be a very interesting tool. By looking at the wrench in different ways I personally found that thewrench is way cooler than most people give it credit for.

This type of drawing is composed only of geometrical shapes. This one is made of circles rectangles and triangles. A lot of people who participated in this project could tell you that drawing the same object over and over again may get a little boring. This applied to me for the beginning of the project, but once I was able to start making collages for a single wrench, my interest grew again for the project.

October 5th, our class completed all 320 sketches for this assignment, and we our favorites up on the wall to be critiqued by the other students.

These photos were taken on October 5th during the critique session our class had after completing all of the sketches for this project. During this time, we all walked around and put marks next to the best sketch from each of the 16 different types of drawings. This is useful for the group because we now know which sketches catch peoples' eyes, and that allows for a good final poster.
